There is deep truth to the emotional journey a woman experiences soon after she becomes a Mother. This looks different for all of us but one thing holds true. We have a deep down immediate desire to be a protector and to fulfill our child's needs for safety and security. This kind of love is hard to place into words, but our children have a unique way of showing their "thanks". It may be seen in the way they only look at us, or a happy gaze they place by the sound of mom's voice, or it could be even be by the way they follow us around all day long seeking closeness. Their need for connection is strong and very much seen in the first year of a child's life.

In the world of photography, there's a magical moment when a photographer captures the essence of a family's love and connection. It's a privilege to be a part of these precious moments and to freeze them in time through the lens of a camera. Today, we shine a spotlight on one such heartwarming family photoshoot that took place in my studio, against a classic black backdrop. This session was particularly special as it celebrated a baby's first birthday, marking a significant milestone for this family.

A Milestone to Remember

Turning one is a big deal for any child. It's a time when they begin to explore the world around them, take their first steps, and say their first words. For parents, it's a momentous occasion that they want to cherish forever. This photoshoot was dedicated to capturing all the joy and wonder of this little one's first year of life.

The Classic Black Backdrop

Choosing a classic black backdrop for this photoshoot was a conscious decision. It allowed the focus to remain solely on the baby and the family. The simplicity of the background served to emphasize the emotions, expressions, and interactions between family members. The result? Timeless, elegant, and emotional photographs that would be cherished for generations.

A Family United

One of the most beautiful aspects of family photoshoots is witnessing the bond between family members. In this session, the love and unity within this family were palpable. As the baby explored the studio, crawled towards the camera, and giggled with delight, the parents beamed with pride, creating a warm and loving atmosphere that was a joy to capture.

I could share just the pretty of the photos I take but lately I am being pulled to share the stories behind the images I capture of my family and those of my clients. 

To share a new and fresh perspective around the deeper feelings that exist when looking at photographs. 

I've pondered a while on how to communicate this new way I'll be sharing content here. The closest I've come to defining it is what you see VS what your child sees. Over the last few years, I've been observing and asking my own children just how they see things. My visual skills are fine tuned so I thought but it seems that the things I see are a bit different than what my children have brought light to. And since my goal as a photographer has always been to capture moments that reflect the people in the photos, I was keen on learning more of the difference that they shared with me. As a result, my visuals have evolved and the connections in my photographs have as well.

You see photographs are memory keepers of a time that once was. Of a time we didn't always appreciate the little things or the mundane everyday details but when we reflect back, these details are consistently always the BIG things that have shaped us and defined us.
